Train Weightlifting Club
Welcome to the TRAIN Weightlifting Club – the dedicated Olympic weightlifting program at Train Manchester. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced lifter, our classes focus on the two classic lifts: the Snatch, and the Clean and Jerk. These explosive, full-body movements challenge your strength, speed, mobility, and coordination like no other. At Train Manchester, we’ve built a space specifically for weightlifting-1,500 square feet equipped with 8 platforms, squat stations, and jerk blocks-designed to give you the room and tools you need to lift safely and effectively. Each session is technique-focused, breaking down the main lifts and their variations, followed by targeted assistance work and squatting to build strength and improve form. Whether you’re training for a weightlifting competition or just looking to improve your lifting technique for Crossfit classes, TRAIN Weightlifting Club is here to help you move better and lift stronger.
Weightlifting for CrossFit
Attending a specialist weightlifting class is a powerful way to boost your performance in CrossFit. By focusing on proper technique in lifts like the Snatch and Clean and Jerk, you improve the efficiency of your movement-meaning you can lift more weight, more quickly, and with less energy wasted. Better technique reduces the risk of injury and allows for smoother, more confident transitions during WODs. Over time, this translates to improved barbell cycling, faster metcons, and the ability to handle heavier loads under fatigue. Simply put, refining your Olympic lifts makes you a more effective and competitive CrossFit athlete.

The Clean & Jerk
The Clean & Jerk is a dynamic Olympic lift that involves lifting a barbell from the floor to overhead in two explosive movements. It develops total-body strength, combining power from the legs, hips, and core with upper-body control. Because it requires precise timing, balance, and coordination, the Clean & Jerk is also highly effective for improving athletic performance and functional movement.

The Snatch
The snatch is a dynamic Olympic weightlifting movement where the lifter explosively pulls a barbell from the ground to overhead in one continuous motion. It requires a blend of strength, speed, flexibility, and balance, making it one of the most technically demanding lifts. Practicing the snatch develops full-body power, especially in the legs, hips, and shoulders, while also enhancing coordination, timing, and neuromuscular control. Its complexity helps athletes improve motor skills and body awareness, which carry over to other sports and functional movements.

Weightlifting for Everyone
Weightlifting is beneficial for athletes of all ages and abilities because it builds foundational strength, supports joint health, and improves posture, balance, and coordination. For younger athletes, it promotes proper movement patterns and injury prevention, while older individuals benefit from increased bone density and muscle mass, which help combat age-related decline. With proper coaching and appropriate programming, weightlifting can be safely adapted to suit beginners, elite performers, and everyone in between. Its emphasis on controlled, functional movement makes it a versatile and effective tool for long-term athletic development.
