Shelley Martin
Role
I’ve been working in the fitness world for over 20 years and my role at Train Heald Green is to ensure the coaches are delivering an excellent training programme, ensure the gym is in tip top condition and help members achieve their fitness goals while having a great time. I also help organise our in-house competitions and take the CrossFit Kids classes.
Why I love CrossFit?
I love it for the ‘leveller’ that it is. Mature athletes doing more pull-ups and running faster than twenty year olds. Girls lifting more than men, and the men being nothing other than inspired and supportive to it. 6 foot + guys moving gracefully doing gymnastics.
The list goes on and on.
Favourite Workout/ Movement
It has to be Helen or Cindy. Helen because it was the first workout I ever did and that I wasn’t completely afraid of and it kept me a little in my comfort zone. Cindy probably because you always forget and underestimate how tough the basics are.
And….rope climbs are always fun.
What are the best things about the TRAIN community?
Along with everything a CrossFit community delivers, my absolute love for TRAIN is the banter and the no frills, fuss or fanfare attitude. Everyone comes to train, have fun, gently roast each other and go home after each workout knowing we have the support of our community. Then do it all again the next day.

I am a Crossfit Level 1 trainer, Masters “athlete” as well as holding my British Weightlifting Level 1. I found Crossfit in 2016 and started coaching to improve my own technical ability as well as to help others improve and develop. My aim for every class is to make it a fun and positive experience and to support and encourage everyone taking part to improve their fitness for the long haul.

With a background in sprinting and a passion for performance, I grew up running the 400m and proudly represented England as a junior athlete. That foundation in speed, discipline, and movement sparked my love for fitness—and ultimately led me to CrossFit. I specialise in helping athletes develop explosive power, efficient movement, and solid technique across the core lifts and conditioning pieces that make CrossFit so effective. What keeps me coaching is the community: watching people gain confidence, push past their limits, and become stronger—physically and mentally—is what it’s all about.

TRAIN is a friendly CrossFit box where athletes of all abilities and fitness levels are welcomed. We pride ourselves on our expert, professional coaching and intelligent programming. We offer a wide range of classes from early morning to late evening – CrossFit, Hyrox, Weightlifting & Kid’s CrossFit classes, all of which are included in the one monthly membership fee. There are no hidden costs or extra’s for you to pay for. There are two large gym spaces. The downstairs, purpose built CrossFit space with Olympic lifting platforms, two large rigs and open gym space. Plus the upstairs PT gym where members can have full use of the rehab equipment. There are large, clean and warm changing rooms with showers and lockers for members. We are looking forward to seeing you soon!

Our space features Eleiko barbells, Concept2 rowers, Rogue Echo Bikes, kettlebells, medicine balls, plyometric boxes, and 15 ft ropes, meeting CrossFit Quarter-Finals standards. Designed by Manchester based designers, NoChintz, our gym includes two expansive training areas – a downstairs CrossFit space and an upstairs PT/ rehab gym – modern changing rooms, treatment rooms, and ample free parking. Located just a two-minute walk from Heald Green Train Station, we offer easy access for members from Wilmslow, Bramhall, Alderley Edge, Cheadle Hulme, Stockport, Wythenshawe, and Manchester.
